State of Decay 2's Green Zone is a "relaxed, accessible apocalypse"

State of Decay 2 can be a stressful experience, a survival zombie game that keeps players on their toes. But an update adds a new difficulty level to Undead Labs' undead-packed game, dubbed the Green Zone - and it's here players will be able to let their hair down. "Think of the Green Zone as a more relaxed, accessible apocalypse, designed for all those gamers who'd like to explore what's possible in State of Decay 2 without enduring quite so much stress," [Read More]

Steam Deck's £349 price point was "painful", Gabe Newell says

Valve boss Gabe Newell has described hitting the Steam Deck PC's basic price point of £349/$399 as "painful" but "critical". The Steam Deck was announced by Valve last night, with pricier options set to cost £459/$529 for a 250GB SSD and £569/$649 for a 512GB SSD. In an interview with IGN, Newell said Valve had set out to be "very aggressive" with its pricing - the basic model is just $50 more than Nintendo's significantly less powerful Switch OLED - but that it had been tough to achieve. The Talos Principle review | Eurogamer.net

Physics challenges and philosophical pondering converge in this heartfelt treat. It begins without fanfare; a list of computer commands projected against a sea of cloud. There's no cut-scene or plotting, nor the slightest indication of the brilliance to come. Instead, your robot avatar is shown a simple garden and bid seek a temple by the booming voice of a supposed god. In short order, you grasp the necessity of spatial reasoning through the first-person perspective, then the binary function of electrical jammers that disable barriers and lethal security systems. Twin Mirror review - a pale imitation of better detective adventures

Awkward, riddled with plot holes and unintentionally offensive, this is Dontnod's worst offering to date. A car drives down a quiet road, past rows of trees, until you eventually glimpse a town, its long-abandoned factories stretching into the skyline. The images are accompanied by a sombre song by folk artist Sean Rowe. Welcome to Basswood, West Virginia. It's an impressive way to start, not least because of how good Twin Mirror looks, and Dontnod knows it - just a few minutes before reaching his destination, protagonist Sam Higgs gets out of his car and glances down at Basswood from a viewpoint awash in the rays of the setting sun. Wolfenstein: Youngblood review - slender, buggy, but sincerely enjoyable co-op mayhem

Two players, two developers, but half the story: this spin-off isn't firing on all cylinders, but the combat is still hugely satisfying. A Nazi-infested world crafted by Arkane looks exactly as you think it should. Dishonored's Dunwall excelled at polarity, its pomp and majesty juxtaposed with decay and death. Neu-Paris, too, echoes Arkane's masterfully macabre world-building. But where Dunwall's untold stories swam in the eyes of its dead and dying, Wolfenstein: Youngblood's Neu-Paris has no time for such sentiment. [Read More]

Firaxis' big new autumn update (or Fall Update, if you must) for Civilization 6 is live and available to download now. Digital Foundry vs Watch Dogs on Wii U

Some might suggest that it's the end of an era. While Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have continued to receive conversions (of varying quality) of the majority of the recent AAA hits, Nintendo's Wii U has clearly missed out this season, with Assassin's Creed, FIFA, Call of Duty, Destiny and many others conspicuous by their absence. Delayed for six months, Watch Dogs could well be the last major multi-platform release the console sees - Ubisoft itself declaring that it's the last mature title it's willing to bring to Wii U. Grounded's latest update adds faction reactivity and horde-style bug invasions

Grounded, developer Obsidian's inch-high garden survival adventure, has just dropped another update on the road to its Version 1.0 release later this year, introducing what sounds like a sort of on-demand horde mode for players wishing to farm and battle particular enemies. As explained in a new developer video, the idea behind Grounded's Bugs Strike Back update is to introduce - in "true Obsidian fashion" - Faction Reactivity. Essentially, the more players bother specific bug types in their quest for new materials - whether that be by killing them outright or merely invading their territory - the more likely those creatures will be to storm player bases to try and exact revenge.
