DokeV is an eye-catching Pokémon-style game from the Black Desert Online developer

UPDATE 26/8/21: DokeV has shifted genres during development and is no longer an MMO, Black Desert Online developer Pearl Abyss has now said. While still currently referred to in press materials and on the game's official site as an MMO, this no longer the case, Pearl Abyss announced this morning via Twitter. "DokeV was initially introduced as an MMO, but we decided to move the game in a different direction and it's now a creature-collecting open world action-adventure," [Read More]

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze re-review - an exceptional platformer that rivals Nintendo's best

Retro Studios displays mastery of the 2D platformer in this exquisite sequel. Poor old Donkey Kong. Despite having helped make Nintendo a key player in the world of video games in the 1981 arcade title bearing his own name, he's always been cast in Mario's shadow. I've often found it hard to fathom exactly why his character doesn't have quite the same appeal - it's a gorilla in a necktie, for heaven's sake! [Read More]

Empire Earth III | Eurogamer.net

Page 1 of 2 Next page So, say you're the Empire Earth franchise. You started out as a bit of a nerd; you had a fascination with history and got a little bit too excited about statistics sometimes, but a lot of people seemed to like you anyway. They appreciated your geeky side, and you got along just fine even if you were never going to be the most popular kid in class (not with the flashier Rise of Nations and Age of Empires around, both of whom were bought convertibles by their parents for their 17th birthdays). Fortnite's UFO season concludes with explosive live event

Fortnite bid farewell to its UFO season with one of its most ambitious live events yet, as players teamed up to detonate explosives on board the aliens' mothership. This involved deliberately being abducted (along with a bunch of bombs) into the bowels of the capital ship, as directed by Dr. Slone - boss of IO, the island's group of mysterious and morally-dubious protectors. If you want to watch what happened yourself, Epic has a recap video below: [Read More]

PUBG's "cheater bots" have finally been told to calm down

PUBG's bots have never been particularly popular with the community ever since they were introduced to public matchmaking, but a recent update transformed the bumbling bots into something far worse: horrifyingly accurate aimbots. Patch 12.1 brought with it some changes to bot AI, which were - in theory - supposed to improve their behaviour, but it seems PUBG Corp made them a little too good. Players took to Reddit to document these machines of terror, pointing out that they were behaving like cheaters. [Read More]

Shadow of War developer who died of cancer immortalised as an in-game orc slayer

UPDATE 5th September 2017: Warner Bros. has issued a statement on the Forthog Orc-Slayer DLC, insisting the company is not profiting from sales of it. "Neither Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment nor Monolith Productions will profit from any sales of the Forthog Orc-Slayer DLC regardless of the territory in which that DLC is sold," Warner Bros. said. While this statement is frustrating in its lack of clarity, it does suggest that no matter which territory you buy the Forthog Orc-Slayer DLC from, Warner Bros. [Read More]

The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine review

Blood and Wine is a fitting end to an exceptional video game. The most endearing thing about the knights of old is not their chivalry, their boldness or their devotion to beauty. Rather, it's how enthusiastically they use those three qualities to justify behaving like total idiots. Take Sir Lancelot in Chrétien De Troyes' The Knight of the Cart, for instance. In one passage, Lancelot watches from the highest window of a tower as the queen rides past, gazing " [Read More]

Twitch replaces Metallica rocking out at BlizzConline with generic music to avoid DMCA takedown

Twitch replaced Metallica at the end of BlizzConline's opening ceremony with generic royalty-free music to avoid a DMCA takedown - with hilarious results. Soon after James Hetfield and co started rocking out, the lever pullers at Twitch replaced the band's music with a plinky tune in an apparent bid to avoid potential takedowns. This occurred on the Twitch Gaming channel, but it did not occur on other Twitch channels, such as Blizzard's own, and it did not occur on the live stream on Blizzard's YouTube channels (I was watching at the time).
