Sony secures trademarks for PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9 and even PS10

You've got to think ahead if you want to stay ahead in the video game business - and that's exactly what Sony's doing. Far far ahead. The company behind PlayStation has filed trademarks for PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9 and PS10. Yep, even PS10. Sure, this is just a forward-thinking protective measure from Sony suits in Japan. But let's do some quick maths: let's say we have a console transition every five years (could be longer, could be shorter) - then we're looking at PS10 in 2045. [Read More]

The Double-A Team: Mercenaries' Playground of Destruction was a lesson in open-world chaos

When I was a teenager and getting into Star Wars, I didn't care whether Han shot first or not in the cantina. You see, I knew better. I'd played Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction. I knew he'd use a bunker buster bomb to turn the cantina to a pile of rubble and dust instead. Pandemic's 2005 open-world explode-'em-up let you create capital-C Chaos as Han Solo. This in itself is a mark of a different time. [Read More]

The games we're looking forward to in 2021

2021! Fingers crossed, frankly. We hope you had a lovely New Year break. If you're like us, you're looking forward to a year that's filled with wonderful new things to play. Here are some of the games that we can't wait for. As always, it's a pretty eclectic bunch, with big-budget stuff like Halo in with wonderful indies about squirrels and cyber cats. Time loops appear more than once, Hollywood talent turns up in unexpected places, and one game at least features everything from the big bang to the death of the universe. [Read More]

Alan Wake's American Nightmare Review

After five years in development, it was hardly a surprise that every brow associated with Alan Wake was furrowed into an irretrievable state of seriousface. And when it did at last arrive, that was the game's problem: it looked great, had a nicely creepy atmosphere, the action mechanics were solid; but, goodness, it didn't half take itself seriously. This was most potently symbolised by Wake himself, a dreary, po-faced bore (yes, it takes a writer to know one), forever framing the world around him in self-absorbed cliché. [Read More]

Assassin's Creed Odyssey's magic is its sense of pure fun

There are plenty of things wrong with Assassin's Creed Odyssey, but I do find it ever so hard to care. I've spent the weekend falling in love, jumping off hundred-foot statues and galloping around the island of Mykonos dressed as Wonder Woman. I could've spent that time thinking about all the cluttered menus and superfluous UI elements, and wondering why, for some reason, so many people love this game when it so proudly displays just so many obvious flaws. Call of Duty: Warzone is getting two new Gulags - and one is a replica of the original Nuketown

Call of Duty: Warzone is getting two new Gulags, Activision has announced. In Infinity Ward's battle royale, the Gulag is where players go when they die. It offers them a chance to get back into the game by defeating an enemy player in a 1v1. The new Verdansk Gulag experience coming to Warzone during the launch week of Season One (from 16th December) is a secret training facility - a Nuketown facsimile built by the Soviets who constructed Black Ops Cold War's Amerika Town (one of the game's better campaign levels). Destiny - Artifacts list, how to get Iron Lord's Legacy and how Attunement works in Rise of Iron

Destiny Artifacts, first introduced in Year 2, have been given a significant update for Rise of Iron. The armor type now gives your Guardian one of eight possible game-changing abilities, and are no longer drops from the game's various activities - but a type of reward from one of the expansion's new vendors. Where to find Iron Lord Artifacts, how to perform "noble deeds" and Attunement to get Iron Lord's Legacy Artifacts are earned from Tyra Karn, the Cryptarch of the Iron Temple social space. eBay clamps down on Steam Deck scalpers

eBay has clamped down on Steam Deck scalpers. Last week we reported on how scalpers had taken to eBay with their £4 Steam Deck reservations, marking up the PC handheld by hundreds of pounds. There were multiple listings of the Steam Deck on eBay, all charging more than Valve's asking price. Some listings had the hardware up for sale for over £1000. But eBay has now scrubbed these listings, telling Eurogamer they were in breach of its presale policy. [Read More]

Fortnite - Graffiti locations: Where to search for a graffiti-covered wall at Hydro 16 or Catty Corner

Finding one of several graffiti locations will help you finish a questline in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7. Following on from challenges which saw you deal explosive damage, collect spray cans and destroy equipment at satellite stations, this final step has you search for a graffiti-covered wall at Hydro 16 or near Catty Corner. Only one is required, so it shouldn't take you long - provided you know where to look, of course. [Read More]
