Finally, PlayStation gets cross-platform Minecraft tomorrow

At last, Minecraft will launch its cross-platform version on PlayStation 4 tomorrow - Tuesday, 10th December. The game's Bedrock build is currently available and offers cross-play between (deep breath) Xbox One, Windows 10, Nintendo Switch, iPhone, Android and Gear VR. Existing owners of Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition will "begin updating" to the Bedrock version then, Microsoft said today in a press release. Just as when this happened on Xbox One, the Bedrock version will arrive as its own separate game client. [Read More]

Humble Bundle is making changes to its Humble Choice membership, to offer a bunch of games under one subscription. Each month, Humble picks out a number of games to offer on its store. Previously two subscription tiers were available that provided a set number of downloads and a discount on the store. However, from February one subscription will be offered for $11.99 USD each month, providing access to all games the team picks out each month. [Read More]

Jagex is shutting down RuneScape Classic after 17 years

Jagex has announced that, after 17 years of operation, RuneScape Classic - the original version of its long-running fantasy MMO - will no longer be available to play on its servers from August 6th, 2018. RuneScape Classic is, essentially, a snapshot of RuneScape as it originally released in 2001. That initial version has seen two major revisions in the years since, as well as (slightly confusingly) the arrival of Old School RuneScape - a version of the game more or less as it was in 2007. New Bugs and Fish in February: Everything arriving and leaving this month in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

February, like January before it and the coming March, is a quiet month for new bugs, fish and sea creatures in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but it's still good to know which critters are currently in - or around - your island. Catching every bug and fish in New Horizons will complete two of the Museum exhibits, while also unlocking both the Golden Fishing Rod and Golden Net DIY recipes. [Read More]

Pikachu once had another evolution, with large fangs and horns

Lovable Pikachu, the yellow and cuddly mascot of the Pokémon franchise, once had a third evolution which would evolve it into a devil-like creature with large fangs and horns. The surprising revelation comes from Pikachu's original illustrator Atsuko Nishida and original Pokémon design legend Ken Sugimori, who were recently interviewed by Japanese newspaper Yomiuri (translated by Siliconera). More than 22 years after Pikachu was first designed, Nishida dropped the bombshell revelation that Pikachu's evolution Raichu was originally set to evolve again - into the fierce-sounding Gorochu. Remembering Singularity, Raven Software's forgotten shooter

You may remember Singularity as the game Activision wanted to forget. Developed by Raven Software - formerly the creators of Heretic, Soldier of Fortune, and Jedi Outcast - Singularity was released in 2010 with minimal fanfare. It received mostly respectable reviews but sold poorly, in no small part because Activision kicked it out of the door with so little support it made Universal Credit look like winning the lottery. We've known developer Sloclap's challenging kung-fu beat-'em-up Sifu would be getting much-requested difficulty settings for some time, but now, following the release of a new content roadmap earlier this week, Sloclap has offered a closer look at how they'll function when they arrive in a new update next Tuesday, 3rd May. As we learned earlier this week, Sifu's new difficulty levels will come in three flavours - Student, Disciple, and Master - and Sloclap's latest preview trailer breaks each setting down in a little more detail. Super cool Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered Easter egg fixes nine-year-old No Russian continuity error

The Call of Duty series is known for its Easter eggs - but this is perhaps the best one yet. THERE MAY BE SPOILERS AHEAD. This week, Activision released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered (as a month-long PlayStation 4 timed-exclusive, criminally), and its developers have taken the opportunity to slip in a super cool Easter egg that fixes a nine-year-old continuity error. It has to do with Yuri, a playable character in 2011's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. [Read More]

Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz HD review - a decent retooling that lacks refinement

The motion controls of the Wii original are stripped out for this remaster, leaving an entertaining if not quite excellent outing. When we talk about Monkey Ball around these parts, it's not long until we're talking about the 0.1 string. It's a pathway on the eleventh course of the original Super Monkey Ball's advanced set of levels, and it embodies everything that's great about Sega's series. There are other, easier pathways available on the level - modelled on a electric guitar, with its six strings presenting six paths of varying width - but to be a Monkey Ball master is to nail the 0.
