Age of Mythology: Extended Edition review

Age of Empires 2 was one of my very first experiences with the real-time strategy genre. As pre-teens, my friends and I tried to get together for LAN parties as often as possible. After one particularly great night, I traded an old sound card I had for a copy of Age of Empires 2 and its expansion. From that point on, I was hooked on the series. A few years later, Age of Mythology messed with the clean balance, historical detail and polish of its predecessors; it was rougher, more aggressive and more playful all at once. [Read More]

Though the first half of the quest can be completed solo, the second and final half is an intense, lengthy mission that requires a dedicated Fireteam and lots of practice. [Read More]

Hands-on with a fully ray traced version of Super Mario 64

The arrival of hardware-accelerated ray tracing has seen developers mostly adopt a hybrid approach, combining standard rasterisation techniques with carefully deployed RT features. Fully ray traced games are few and far between, but revisiting decades-old classics and delivering them with a full RT upgrade is within the power envelope of today's graphics hardware. Hell Let Loose is a hardcore WW2 shooter with an RTS twist, and it's carnage

There's a lot of chatter these days about how my generation would deal with the Second World War. I can't answer that one for you (and, honestly, I don't really care), but if Hell Let Loose is anything to go by I personally would handle it by climbing into an empty tank, getting lost on the way to the front line and then driving into a tree. Hell Let Loose Publisher: Team 17 Developers: Black Matter Availability: Out now on PC, coming 2021 to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Hell Let Loose is carnage, and it's brilliant. [Read More]

How Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is improved on Switch

Nintendo's strategy of remastering and re-releasing its first party Wii U back catalogue continues to pay off handsomely, with Retro Studios' Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze making the transition across to Switch with some excellent results. It's a game well worth resurrecting - with its potent mix of fantastic controls, great level design and a memorable David Wise soundtrack, it's a personal favourite I've continued to play years on from its initial release - but how does it stack up on Switch and what enhancements and refinements have been made? If Resident Evil Village looks too scary, here's an official puppet version

Capcom has released a musical puppet show featuring characters from Resident Evil Village. It's meant to be cute, though there's still buckets of blood represented by red cloth, tinsel and streamers. Of course, fan-favourite Lady Dimitrescu is the star of the show. There's no English subtitles yet but, really, I think you'll get the gist: This week, Capcom decided to extend this weekend's stingy final demo window by a week for all platforms - so get downloading that now.
