Bertie: Do you remember the first time you realised magical potions weren't real? I was so surprised I had to take yesterday off work!
I believe potions are a staple of any fantasy game experience. Try thinking of one without them - I can't (don't think too hard just in case you do). Find a potion and you know exactly what experience you're in for. But how much time do you spend actually thinking about them, about their composition, about their cost?

Dead by Daylight goes back to its roots for its newly announced original chapter Portrait of a Murder.
The chapter is "an artistic ode to fear and darkness set in a surreal interpretation of an abandoned graveyard in the Chilean desert" and features a new killer and survivor.
The announcement trailer gives a sense of the ink blotted artistic vibe, as well as a look at the new characters.
The Artist is the new birdlike killer, the gifted but tormented Chilean painter Carmina Mora.

If you're of a certain vintage and inclination - and sorry to make assumptions, but given you're currently reading Eurogamer I reckon it's likely you are - you'll be familiar with an infamous review of Doom way back in 1994 that ended up asking what if you could talk to the monsters. It's an idle thought that's since passed into legend, oft-mocked and even held up as some vague prophecy, but I've only just realised it's not really that strange a notion.

A lurid and generous trip through the iconography of seventies rock. Editor's note: Hello! Over the next few days we're running a "Games That Got Away" series, where we finally get round to reviewing games that released at some point in 2021 but, for various reasons, we couldn't quite manage to cover at the time.
We've gone back to a few real gems, so for more catch-up reviews like this one head to the Games That Got Away hub, where all our pieces from the series will be rounded up in one convenient place.

I still can't quite believe it's now been a decade since the release of Fallout: New Vegas, but yesterday Obsidian's much-beloved RPG turned 10, and Fallout fans (including ourselves) took a moment to look back and remember why the title was so great. One mod team decided to mark the occasion in particularly spectacular fashion by releasing a new trailer to show off progress so far. And I have to say, it really does look excellent.

A detailed Proof Games report into Mark Haspel, the co-founder of game grading company Wata, has brought to light worrying details of his business activities, and of Wata in general. Wata appraises and rates the quality of collectible video games, often pushing their prices into the hundreds and thousands of dollars. To avoid any conflict of interest, it has previously stated it does not allow employees to have their own games graded or sell any that have been graded by the company.

Pokémon Sword and Shield's Ball Guy is a masked vigilante that could explode at any given moment and I'm going to explain why.
Let me preface this by saying: the Ball Guy is lovely. He does his little dance, cheers you on for gym battles and, most importantly, gifts you Poké Balls so you can catch all the interesting new Pokémon the Galar region has to offer.
The internet has fallen in love with him, too - some consider him boyfriend material, a friend who's just vibing, an excellent choice for a new Smash character, perhaps.

We. The Revolution is a fascinating and provoking descent into a judge's buckled shoes during the French Revolution. Standing before me is the caretaker of a cemetery. He's old, dirty and lecherous, and he is accused of murder - of decapitating a young lady and selling her bleached skull to science. Her body was found in his woodshed and, frankly, it doesn't look good for him. Everyone expects the guillotine, and for him to be decapitated in kind.
