Empire of Sin review - intoxicating but overwhelming

A charismatic and enjoyable gangster sim that gets a bit bogged down in admin. There's a lot to like about this 1920s gangster sim. It's an intricately detailed game about a romanticised time. And as you would expect, it has gangsters in fedoras and fur coats and flapper gear, and Tommy guns and knuckle dusters and baseball bats. Those curvy old cars and delivery trucks rumble down the cobbled, often rain-slicked streets. [Read More]

Fable III: Understone Quest Pack

Page 1 of 2 Next page It must be a tricky business for developers, this downloadable content lark. Release a pack too soon after a game's launch and you get people accusing you of deliberately slicing content out of the original to repurpose for profit at a later stage. Wait too long, however, and your fickle audience may well have moved on. And do you assume everyone's completed the game, or do you make it accessible to anyone, no matter how far they've progressed through the campaign? [Read More]

GTA on Wii "didn't really feel natural"

Rockstar Games' co-founder Dan Houser has revealed why the company has so far shied away from releasing a Grand Theft Auto title on the Wii. "It didn't feel natural to us, I guess," he told Nintendo Power in a recent interview, and went on to explain why Rockstar chose the DS for its upcoming handheld title, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. "It really was that the DS felt like it had a lot of interesting challenges that would be totally different from what we'd done in the past," [Read More]

I wish Call of Duty: Modern Warfare let me play the maps I want when I want

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it feels like the monetisation lever pullers at publisher Activision have finally found a system that is both good for business and players. But there's one aspect of the game that continues to frustrate me: rotating playlists. With the launch of season three this week, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare got a new (and fun!) battle pass, new operators and three new maps free for everyone. [Read More]

Lego Star Wars scalpers target Blue Milk Luke minifigure

Scalpers are reportedly targeting stock of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - and specifically its Deluxe Edition physical pack which includes an exclusive Lego minifigure. The minifigure in question is Luke Skywalker, albeit with a unique look - he's chugging down on a carton of his favourite blue milk, and has a frothy-looking milk moustache. Unfortunately, this cute toy has caught the attention of scalpers looking to resell the figure for plenty of credits on its own. [Read More]

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Review

Editor's note: Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is released in Europe this week. Here we present our review of the North American release of the game, first published in November last year. To the best of our knowledge it's still accurate with respect to the European version. Metal Gear Solid's Snakes may resemble Escape From New York's hero right down to their names and eventual eye patch; however, their penchant for ideological musing about the nature of war reminds me more of another mulleted eighties action hero, Dalton, the bouncer with a philosophy PHD from Road House. In the official FNaF subreddit (thanks, Xenodizzy), Cawthon dropped a message to the community, saying " [Read More]

The Team Fortress 2 community is fighting bots with bots

Despite the efforts of Valve to curb the bot invasion, it seems bots still haunt the servers of Team Fortress 2 - and players have taken matters into their own hands. As the saying goes, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, and that's exactly what the community is doing with "extermination bots", which are designed to hunt down cheating bots and take them out. Although the creator of these bots remains elusive, and it's unclear exactly how many people are doing this, you can find several videos of the bots in the wild on both YouTube and Reddit.
