Dead Island: Ryder White Review

In the debate about the rights and wrongs of DLC, one aspect rarely discussed is how downloadable expansions can enable a developer to build on flawed potential and polish up a rough diamond. Few diamonds came rougher than Dead Island last year, a game groaning with promise but ultimately weighed down by lacklustre presentation and lacking the inspiration to keep its over-20-hour playing time fresh. As the first narrative add-on for the game, following the XP grind of Bloodbath Arena, Ryder White's campaign should have been a chance for Techland to elevate its surprise hit into something truly special. Hot vaginal action | Eurogamer.net

Quite possibly the most bizarre game that we have ever come across (um .. let me rephrase that) is "Catch the Sperm" from Swiss developer Phenomedia. Sponsored by Switzerland's Office of Public Health as part of their Stop Aids campaign, the game is a side-scrolling shooter which takes place within a woman's vagina and tasks you with firing your condom cannon at incoming sperm and viruses. Successfully stopping them earns you points, and the top 100 scores each week are displayed for all the world to see on the Catch the Sperm website. [Read More]

Portal 2 mod adds third portal with time travel

Portal 2 turned 10 years old yesterday - can you believe it - and instead of simply celebrating with cake, it seems one modder has taken things a step further by creating a massive expansion mod. With time travel and four dimensions, of course. Titled Portal Reloaded, the mod launched yesterday evening and transports players to a "very special test course" hidden in the depths of Aperture Science. Once woken from stasis by an automated AI, you'll be handed a Triple Portal Device which, as the name suggests, allows you to shoot a third portal with the middle mouse button. [Read More]

Tencent buys Nightingale developer Inflexion Games

Inflexion Games, the studio founded by former BioWare boss Aaryn Flynn, has been sold to Chinese conglomerate Tencent. Flynn's new outfit is currently making Nightingale, a Victoriana-inspired fantasy survival crafting game which it revealed late last year. Development will now continue, though changes have been made as Inflexion is no longer part of Improbable, the company behind the rather vaguely-defined cloud computing tech SpatialOS. Last month, Improbable announced it was effectively doing a Google Stadia, and quitting internal game development. [Read More]
