Sony defends white PSP ad

Sony Computer Entertainment has defended itself against accusations of racism over a controversial advert for the new 'Ceramic white' PSP. The advert, which has appeared on billboards in the Netherlands, shows a white woman gripping a black woman by the jaw and features the slogan: "PlayStation Portable White is coming." Many websites and forum posters have protested that the advert is racist and are campaigning for its removal. A Sony spokesperson has responded by stating that the ad does not have a racist message and that is part of a wider marketing campaign, telling our sister site, GamesIndustry. [Read More]

Super Mario 3D All-Stars: remasters, emulation - or a mixture of both?

Decades after the release of Super Mario All-Stars on Super NES, Nintendo revisits the concept with Super Mario 3D All-Stars - a compilation featuring Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy. Each of the three games has received several enhancements in their Switch debut but is it enough? Is this time-limited release actually worthy of the All-Stars name? There's a proud legacy here. When Nintendo released Super Mario All-Stars for Super NES back in the early 90s, it made a huge impact with the development team completely reworking the 8-bit Mario games at 16-bit quality, with new art, sound and features - an ambitious but amazing project. The Double-A Team: Unit 13 was a great game hidden in camo

I will always love the Vita: that beautiful screen, that oddball touchpad on the back, those lovely floating triggers. Most of all the Vita had such excellent games - a Double-A paradise. Gravity Rush was a dream of movement and landscape. Wipeout was the future of yesterday handled with care. And Unit 13? Unit 13 was a secretly great game, if you looked past the surface stuff. For one thing: Unit 13. [Read More]

This short animated Assassin's Creed Origins trailer is worth a minute of your time

Clocking in at just under a minute, this Assassin's Creed Origins video is but a morsel of a trailer. Still, amongst all the bombastic gameplay and review score braggery we usually see in promotional trails, it's well worth highlighting. Created by Hong Kong-based Paperbox Creations, it shows Origins main character Bayek leaping into battle, after having his fate weighed up by the god Anubis. History lesson: Egyptians believed your heart was weighed upon death, and in order to enter the afterlife you needed a heart as light as a feather. [Read More]

Unsheathe Saints Row 4's Penetrator in Shadow Warrior

Flying Wild Hog's new Shadow Warrior reboot has added Saints Row 4's giant purple dildo, the Penetrator, to its arsenal. In a peculiar crossover with between Shadow Warrior publisher Devolver Digital and Saints Row 4 publisher Deep Silver, this new suggestive weapon is only unlocked for those who own both games on Steam. Functionally it's identical to Shadow Warrior's katana, but aesthetically it's from a whole 'nother planet. [Read More]

Why Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart's 40fps support is a potential game-changer

A few weeks back, Insomniac patched Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart on PlayStation 5 to introduce a revised version of its 4K30 fidelity mode. Tapping into the capabilities of 120Hz displays, what the team delivered is a potential game-changer for console titles - a 40fps mode that looked just as good as the older 30fps offering, but running considerably more smoothly and feeling better to play. On the face of it, a bonus 10fps doesn't sound like a huge bump, but in actuality, it's a very big deal. [Read More]

Civilization 6's next update lets you learn to live with those pesky barbarians

In Civilization 6, barbarians are a pretty simple obstacle to understand: kill or be killed. In the game's next update, the barbarians are getting a complete overhaul that makes them more than just empty-headed gold pinatas. In the video below, developer Firaxis goes into detail on how it all works. The February update, set for 25th February and free for all players, adds the new Barbarian Clans game mode. This completely changes how barbarians work in the game, adding six barbarian clans that can be found living on or near different map conditions, and each specialising in a different type of unit. Command & Conquer Remastered Collection was a success - so what's next for the revived RTS franchise?

I think it's fair to say Command & Conquer Remastered Collection was a resounding success. EA's nostalgia-fuelled real-time strategy revival was a hit with fans and critics alike when it launched in June - and it saw big sales on Steam. But as its developers continue to support the game with balance updates, tweaks and mod support, the inevitable question is this: what's next for Command & Conquer? I've seen plenty of requests for EA to continue to work with the developers at Petroglyph Games and Lemon Sky Studios on more remasters of classic C&C games. [Read More]
