Mirror's Edge Catalyst still offers an open-world city like no other

Years ago, EA's building in the UK was a Foster and Partners number in Chertsey. And it had a handful of interesting features. There was a moat. There were ducks involved, or maybe swans. The front of the structure came off (on purpose) and leaked (not on purpose). From the air the whole thing looked a bit like the letter E. Electronic! Inside it was pure Bond lair, of course, this being the era which also gave us the doomy concrete spinal excavation of Westminster Tube Station, my favourite building in London because I am a massive child, loose in the world with nothing in my skull but feathers. Overwatch's McCree will be renamed Cole Cassidy next week

Overwatch's fan-favourite cowboy character Jesse McCree finally has a new name after Activision Blizzard committed to changing it in the wake of California's ongoing lawsuit alleging sexual harassment and a "frat boy" culture at the company. Henceforth, Jesse McCree will be known as Cole Cassidy. McCree is just one of many characters across Blizzard's portfolio to have taken his name from a developer at the company. However, back in August, Blizzard announced it would be renaming the cowboy after the real-life Jesse McCree, who had been named in several accounts of the studio's toxic work culture, was confirmed to have departed the company amid the fallout from the lawsuit - although no reason for his exit was given. Pokémon Conquest Review | Eurogamer.net

Pokémon, it turns out, works so well as a strategy RPG that it's sort of weird nobody thought of trying it before. The critters themselves make for an excellent range of units, their array of strengths and weaknesses provides the ideal basis for the old rock, paper, scissors routine, and the trainers - sorry, warriors - they're linked to allow the designers to fling in a little meta-strategy, as you match the right man with the right monster. The Evil Within 2 review

Resident Evil 4 meets the Truman Show in an entertaining but unremarkable follow-up, held back by tepid stealth and warmed-over scares. The scariest thing you'll hear in The Evil Within 2 isn't the sound of your very own daughter burning alive, or the paralysing roar of an alerted zombie, or even that witchy refrain through your PS4 controller's speaker as one, especially tenacious apparition shadows you from room to room. The Sims 4 Tiny Living guide: How to get the most out of your Tiny Home Residential Lot

The Sims 4: Tiny Living is the first add-on of the new decade, and perhaps the first official Sims add-on to incorporate a popular community-created challenge into its core. Tiny home builds have been popular among Sims players for years, with the results being shared on social media, fan sites, and most recently The Sims 4's Gallery feature. Until Tiny Living, the rewards for completing one of these unofficial challenges were the admiration of fellow players and the satisfaction of mastering a tricky task. [Read More]

Desert horror Amnesia: Rebirth is next week's free Epic Store game

Amnesia: Rebirth, the third outing in developer Frictional Games' historical horror series, will be next week's free Epic Store game, alongside couch-based co-op dungeon-crawler Riverbond. Rebirth - which follows on from Frictional's 2010 original and its Chinese-Room-developed successor A Machine for Pigs - whisks players back to the 1930s for an unsettling adventure across the Algerian desert. This time around, the focus is on protagonist Tasi Trianon as she attempts to navigate the sandy, hostile expanse, piecing together fragments of her past (and occasionally dealing with unspeakable horrors) along the way. Destiny 2: The Witch Queen pre-load unavailable on PS4

Destiny 2's big new expansion The Witch Queen arrives today for all platforms, though its pre-load has been held up on PS4 due to "an unforeseen issue". Late last night, PS4 owners reported being unable to download the game's ~72GB of required content files ahead of The Witch Queen going live today. Other platforms, including PS5, are unaffected. In a tweet this morning, Bungie's support account acknowledged the snafu, and said PS4 owners would have to wait until 9am PST (5pm UK time) when the update formally goes live. [Read More]

Ex-Blizzard dev discusses Diablo 2's unreleased second expansion

A former Blizzard developer has discussed Diablo 2's unreleased second expansion. This expansion was only ever designed and never produced, David Brevik, who was the co-founder and president of defunct studio Blizzard North, said on Twitter over the weekend. Yes, sort of... it was only designed, never produced. I had a multi-page design doc going over new classes, new areas, new mechanics and story concepts. That’s as far as it got. [Read More]
