Microsoft scraps Forza Street | Eurogamer.net

Forza Street shuts down in the spring, Microsoft has announced. In a FAQ, Turn 10 Studios principal design director Andy Beaudoin said the "difficult decision" was made to close Forza Street "after careful consideration". The team now "shifts its focus to new and exciting Forza experiences", Beaudoin continued. "We understand this is tough news for our players, however, we wanted to take this time to share our gratitude and thanks to all who joined us on our first journey into mobile. [Read More]

MySims Kingdom | Eurogamer.net

Page 1 of 2 Next page It's one of the most successful videogames in history - so successful, in fact, that publisher Electronic Arts has an entire business unit devoted to it. It propelled creator Will Wright from geek hero to media darling, and earned him a reputation as the medium's Spielberg. Yet for Tim LeTourneau, The Sims has one glaring problem. "The Sims is a phenomenal game - I spent a lot of my career working on The Sims - but it's limited in one specific place," [Read More]

New Sega trademark and logo emerge for Sega NFT

So far, Sega's had something of a rollercoaster relationship with NFTs, bursting forth fully enthused last summer before seemingly reining that excitement in more recently. However, its corporate machinations continue behind the scenes and new trademark registrations and logos have emerged revealing Sega's new gambit to potentially be called Sega NFT. Sega first shared its interest in joining the NFT and blockchain throng last April, when it revealed it had partnered with Japanese company Double Jump Tokyo to begin selling the likes of visual art, in-game images, and background music based on its new and classic IPs in NFT form. Platinum Games' Kamiya announces mysterious Project G.G.

UPDATE 27/2/20: Platinum Games has now announced the third of its four planned reveals - and rather than a new game, this time around it's a new studio. The Osaka-based Platinum is founding a Tokyo team to tackle a new live service game for consoles. It's a big change from Platinum's traditional single-player action game focus. "Our new Tokyo office will play a major role as we expand into live ops game development," [Read More]

Rainbow Six: Siege won't have a campaign mode

Rainbow Six: Siege will not include a single-player campaign, Ubisoft has confirmed. Lone players can instead play the game's core maps via Siege's Terrorhunt mode, which was announced back at E3 this year as being for "1-5 players". "There is no story mode per se," Rainbow Six: Siege art director Scott Mitchell told WhatCulture. "You go through training, where you get to experience different operators and their devices. You can play against enemy AI in co-op through all the maps. [Read More]

SpellForce 3 review | Eurogamer.net

The old school RTS continues to gather strength, with help from some friends in high level places. Describing a game as a mash-up of two other well-known titles is lazy, but you know what? It's fun and sometimes useful, as in the case of SpellForce. 'Baldur's Gate meets Age of Mythology' is the sell, and third time out for this particular series I'm committed to updating the labels of the imaginary Venn diagram for the benefit of those unfamiliar with the game's role-playing strategy formula. Super Nt review: a SNES for the 21st century

In 2017, Analogue released the Nt Mini - a premium console designed to play 8-bit NES games with exceptional accuracy and video quality but at $450, it was prohibitively expensive for most. One year on, Analogue has returned with the Super Nt, an FPGA-based precision recreation of the Super NES with many new features. Priced at $189, it's more affordable too, but with so many options available for playing Super NES games, you might be wondering what exactly makes this product special. [Read More]

The moment Diablo - and the action-RPG genre - were born

It's pretty rare that the moment an entire video game genre was conceived can be pinpointed to the second. But David Brevik, lead programmer, designer and co-creator of Diablo, did just that during an anecdote-packed postmortem session at the Game Developers Conference earlier this month. Brevik, along with the brothers Max and Erich Schaefer, had been fooling around with the idea for the game for years: a dark, Gothic role-playing game with procedurally generated dungeons, influenced heavily by Rogue, Nethack and the other early roguelikes. Toy Story 3 | Eurogamer.net

Page 1 of 2 Next page Time makes liars of us all, and I knew I was tempting fate when I wrote that LEGO Harry Potter would likely be the best kids game of the year. Playing Toy Story 3, there were times I worried I'd have to retract my rash prediction after only a couple of weeks. That's because in its best moments, Toy Story 3 perfectly captures the innocent imaginative appeal of play. [Read More]
