This week saw the re-release of a real Nintendo curio. The Famicon Detective Club games initially seem to have come from a parallel universe - Nintendo games, but also visual novels? The re-releases of the first two adventures have been lovingly handled, with beautifully updated graphics and plenty of quality-of-life changes, although be warned that they remain wilful and rather odd. To help make sense of where these games came from, though, we've decided to dig into the history of this fascinating series.

Gabe Newell is the hallowed leader of one of gaming's most powerful companies, Valve, but we don't often see him. He's like some whispered-about deity at the top of a mystical tower. Nor do we often see much humour from Valve. It's all serious Steam business these days and Dota 2 and Counter-Strike GO. But, hold your breath, here's a new Dota 2 video from Valve which does something about that.

Making Call of Duty is hard; hard for both Infinity Ward and Treyarch, the two studios Activision charges with sharing the responsibility of producing a new game in the gargantuan first-person shooter series each year.
But this time, for Ghosts, making Call of Duty was harder. Developer Infinity Ward created five versions of the game: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 - as normal - but also PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions in time for the consoles' launch.

Respawn Entertainment has confirmed a maximum of 12 players can play multiplayer shooter Titanfall at once.
"6v6 is max player count," Respawn chief Vince Zampella tweeted last night. "Turned out to be the best balance with AI for us."
Titanfall's maps include numerous AI-powered characters who work alongside and against players. There are also mechs that can be piloted, or used as computer-controlled sidekicks in follow or guard mode.
Zampella followed that tweet with another: "

Valve has been measuring salty sweat oozing from people's pores while they play video games. How much you sweat betrays how nervous or panicked or anxious or just plain scared you are, you see - at least that's what Valve's in-house experimental psychologist, Mike Ambinder, reckons. Like he'd know.
Armed with that data, Valve can modify game experiences on the fly. One experiment involved having people-rats shoot 100 enemies in four minutes, reported VentureBeat.

As spotted by GoNintendo, Kirby pops up in the first seconds of the official Fortnite trailer for its recently-released Party Royale mode. You can see Nintendo's famous pink blob bopping away on the screen in the background.
Curious! Even more curious is Kirby is blurred out in the equivalent video uploaded to the Xbox and PlayStation YouTube channels.

EA has launched a free trial version of Dragon Age: Inquisition on PC.
Origin members can sample the BioWare role-player for up to six hours, which is enough to get a fair way into the story.
The game's multiplayer mode is available entirely for free, meanwhile. That's a smart move as, like other recent EA titles, Inquisition's online mode offers paid-for packs of random items (just as in the enjoyable multiplayer portion of Mass Effect 3).
