In the days before Sony started making videogame consoles and Sega stopped, when Microsoft made Windows and Nintendo made millions, when games came on cartridges not discs and there were no such things as ROM files or emulators or IPS fan translation patches, and buses ran on time and children were seen and not heard and don't you know I fought in two world wars you ungrateful etc.
At that time, the only way this freshly pubescent correspondent could play and understand Final Fantasy V was to traipse over to a shady import shop in London, hand over £60, trawl whatever Internet search engine we used to have before Google and print out 400 pages of badly translated dialogue from a text-only website run by a Spanish man with terrifying dyslexia.

Gran Turismo 6's microtransactions were always a controversial feature. Some people just don't like being asked to grind for in-game content when they know that the barrier to their prize could be waved with a few quid, while others appreciate the optional shortcut. Critics of the model will be delighted to learn that it's all for naught at the moment, as a glitch has been discovered in Polyphony's latest racer that can earn you a cool 20 million credits - about £120 / €150 - in under three minutes.

Jenova Chen, the co-founder of Thatgamecompany and creative director of Journey, played a lot of World of Warcraft during grad school. And he always knew that he wanted to make an MMO one day - a form of games that are synonymous, rightly or wrongly, with scope and scale. And yet when Chen started to make games, the games his studio turned out tended to be small - or at least they seemed small, before you got properly into them.

UPDATE 28/03/2017 4.28pm: Funny story: it turns out the reason Outlast 2 was rejected by the Australian Classification Board in the first place was because the developer submitted the wrong video.
The developer explained in a statement to Eurogamer that it had actually sent an earlier build of the game that contained a video not intended to be included in the final release. Here's the statement in full:
“The original submission of Outlast 2 sent to the Australian Classification Branch contained the final game code and a video file for reference taken from an Alpha version of the game.

If you somehow missed it, earlier this week Respawn unveiled some massive changes coming to Apex Legends in its upcoming Legacy season - the biggest being a new permanent game mode called Arenas. Set to run alongside Apex's standard battle royale matches, Arenas has been described as the "first step" in moving Apex Legends beyond battle royale. And as it turns out, the first pitch document for Arenas was inspired by Auto Chess: a pretty surprising choice given that battle royales and auto chess, erm, aren't particularly alike.
