What a Mess: Burn the Trash and What a Mess: Clear the Clog are the first side missions Ahti the janitor will give you in Control.
Ahti believes that you're his new assistant and clearly isn't going to listen to any arguments to the contrary. He also has a holiday coming up, so you might as well help him out.
Completing these missions will reward you with more Materials, new Mods - both Weapon and Personal - and more Ability Points for upgrading Jesse's powers. So head down to the Maintenance Sector and see what Ahti has in store for you.

How to start the What a Mess missions in Control
The What a Mess missions are started by selecting them from the noticeboard in the Janitor's Office.
The quickest way to reach the Janitor's Office is to fast travel, via the Control Points to the NSC Power Plant.
From there head through the double doors opposite the Power Plant and up the lift to reach the Janitors Office. You'll find both Ahti and the noticeboard inside.
What a Mess: Burn the Trash in Control
Your first job as assistant janitor is simple - burn some trash. To do this, you need to head to the Furnace Chamber.
How to reach the Furnace Chamber
If you're planning on completing this side mission during the main mission, Directorial Override, you'll visit the furnace on your way to the NSC Coolant Pumps.
After cleansing the Control Point on the way to the Coolant Pumps, you can head through the right-hand passageway to find the Furnace.
If you're completing What A Mess: Burn the Trash, you can simply fast travel to the NSC Coolant Pumps Entrance and head into the Furnace Chamber.
Burn the trash around the Furnace
Around the Furnace Chamber, you'll find barrels with a completely non-worrying biohazard sign on them. This is the trash Ahti wants you to get rid of.
Use your Launch powers to pick up the trash and throw it into the Furnace.
There are 6 barrels you to burn in total and they can be found:
- Right in front of you as you enter the Furnace Chamber
- To the left of the furnace
- In the bottom left-hand corner of the room
- On the ledge on the right-hand side of the room - you can reach it via the walkways
- On the lower floor of the room hidden behind some pipes - look for the green glow
- On the lower floor of the room behind a pillar
Tossing all the barrels into the furnace will complete the mission.

What a Mess: Clear the Clog in Control
The Clog has returned and Ahti needs your help in clearing it from the Pump Station.
How to reach the Pump Station
The quickest way to reach the Pump Station is to fast travel to the NSC Coolant Pumps entrance via the Control Points.
You then want to head to the actual NSC Coolant Pumps. Don't forget to keep your guard up as you explore this room, because Hiss forces may appear to attack you.
Use the walkways to reach the topmost level of the Coolant Pumps room. At the far end of this level, you'll find the doors to the Pump Room.
Listen for the sounds of Ahti's music if you're having trouble finding the door.
Clear the Clog
Upon entering the Pump Station, you'll be able to see the Clog through the floor grate. You'll find two electrical sockets, but no electricity boxes. Don't worry out these empty sockets for now.
Instead, use the cabinet on the right-hand side of the room to climb on cage containing pipes. This will allow you to bypass one of the locked doors and drop down into the room below.
In here, you'll find both an electricity socket and an electricity box. Use your Launch powers to place the box on the socket to open the door.
Behind the doors, you'll find another electricity box. Pick it up with your Launch powers and head back into the main section of the Pump Room. Place the electricity box on either of the sockets in this room.
Now climb back onto the pipe cage and retrieve the first electricity box with your Launch powers. Place it on the remaining empty socket.
Activate the draining pump
Head up the stairs on the higher level in the Pump Station and turn the gear on the piping there to activate the draining pump.
Go to the lower level and push back the Clog
It's time to face the Clog.
Head through the door on the highest level of the Pump Station to reach the lower level where the clog resides.
Once you're down in the depths of the Pump Station, it's time to take out the Clog.
Just like before, you take out the Clog by destroying its yellow, spot like ends, with your Service Weapon.
Destroying the Clog (for now...) will complete the mission, before you leave, make sure you open the two chests in the lowest level of the Pump Station.
