How to get Helioptile in the latest Pokémon Go event

Helioptile and Heliolisk are Gen 6 Pokémon which first appeared in Pokémon Go during January 2022.

Helioptile was released as part of the Power Plant event and can be caught through these methods:

  • In the wild
  • Completing field research tasks:
    • Walk 1km
    • Catch 5 Electric-type Pokémon (Can also encounter either Electrike or Joltik)

We recommend hunting Helioptile down in the wild during the Power Plant event if you want to add it to your Pokédex.

If you're having trouble finding one, it's a good idea to keep an eye on your Pokémon radar in case one appears at a nearby PokéStop or using a Magnetic Lure. These lures specifically attract electric, steel or rock Pokémon, so, even if you have to wait, there's a good chance Helioptile will appear.

If, however, you'd prefer to catch Helioptile via one of the two field research tasks, keep in mind the task each PokéStop offers changes every day. This can make it hard to hunt down the right PokéStop, so it's a good idea to check your local Pokémon Go groups on Facebook or Reddit to see if anyone has found the correct one.

It's also important to note that the 'Catch 5 Electric-type Pokémon' task has three encounter options - Electrike, Joltik or Helioptile. This means that you may not receive Helioptile as a reward, so you may have to complete it multiple times to get the Pokémon you desire.

At the time of writing, we don't currently know the spawn rate for Helioptile once the Power Plant event ends. We can assume though that, like the majority of Gen 6 Pokémon, Helioptile will be a rare encounter after the event. For this reason, we recommend catching at least one Helioptile before the Power Plant event ends.

The Season of Go has arrived! The Pokémon TCG Crossover event is here, which includes the release of Wimpod and Golisopod. While Go Fest 2022 may be behind us, there are still three special research quests you might be working on - Pokémon Go Fest 2022, Rhi's Arrival and A Radiant World. Meanwhile, the Great League and Great League and Great League Remix are currently running in the Go Battle League Season 11. This season has also seen the lowering of the level requirement for Candy XL and introduced the first Ultra Beast, Nihilego.

Helioptile evolution Heliolisk in Pokémon Go explained

To evolve a Helioptile into a Heliolisk in Pokémon Go you need to collect both 50 Helioptile Candy and a Sun Stone.

Candy can be easily collected by using any spare Rare Candy you might have on Helioptile, walking with it as your buddy for 3km or using Pinap Berries when attempting to catch one to double the amount of catch candy you'll receive.

Sun Stones, meanwhile, are rare drops from spinning PokéStops. Thankfully, you're guaranteed to receive a special evolution item when you reach the seventh day of your PokéStop Daily Bonus streak. The item you receive, however, is selected randomly, so, if you don't have a Sun Stone already, you may have to wait quite a while.

Sun Stones are also occasionally included as rewards for both special and timed research quests, so, if you're having trouble finding one, it may be worth waiting for such a quest.

Good luck catching and evolving Helioptile in Pokémon Go!
