Pokémon Go Gen 6 Pokémon list released so far, and every creature from X and Y's Kalos region listed

Gen 6 promises to bring a total of 72 new Pokémon for you to catch in Pokémon Go.

This is by far the smallest Pokémon generation added to Pokémon Go; Gen 2 brought 100 new Pokémon, Gen 3 introduced 130, Gen 4 offers 107 Pokémon and Gen 5 has the largest number of new Pokémon at 156.

Gen 6 was introduced alongside the release of Pokémon X and Y, which is the sixth instalment, excluding remakes and special editions, in the main Pokémon series. Like Gen 5, this generation is focused around original creatures, meaning there are no new baby Pokémon or new evolutions for previous generations.

What we know about Gen 6 Pokémon

Originating from the Kalos region, which takes inspiration from northern France, Gen 6 introduces 72 new Pokémon. This includes a collection of new legendaries, the traditional three - grass, water and fire - starter Pokémon and Klefki, the sentient keys Pokémon because why not.

Here are some interesting facts about how Gen 6 makes itself unique among the multiple Pokémon generations:

  • Gen 6 saw the introduction of the fairy-type, which was the first new Pokémon type introduced since dark and steel-type Pokémon were introduced in Gold and Silver. Not only were pure fairy-type Pokémon, like Spritzee, were introduced, but older Pokémon, such as Marill and Jigglypuff, became dual types to increase the range of fairy-type Pokémon available.
  • Sylveon, the eighth Eevee evolution, was introduced as part of Gen 6. To obtain it in the main line series, Eevee must know at least one fairy-type move and have a high friendship level with you.
  • Mega Evolution and the various alternate forms for Absol, Mewtwo and other Pokémon, were introduced as part of this generation.
  • Gen 6 includes one of the most elaborate and unique evolution methods in the entire Pokémon series. If you want to evolve Inkay into Malamar, you must train Inkay to level 30 and then, when the evolution process begins, turn the console upside down. This is achieved thanks to the internal gyroscope of the Nintendo 3DS and, since this is the first Nintendo handheld console to include a gyroscope, this evolution method would be impossible in previous generations.
  • Gen 6 is the first Pokémon generation to not have a pure ground or electric-type Pokémon.
  • Thematically, Gen 6 focuses around the concepts of beauty, balance and harmony. This demonstrated by the legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal, which represent the balance between life (Xerneas) and destruction (Yveltal).

The Season of Go has arrived! The Pokémon TCG Crossover event is here, which includes the release of Wimpod and Golisopod. While Go Fest 2022 may be behind us, there are still three special research quests you might be working on - Pokémon Go Fest 2022, Rhi's Arrival and A Radiant World. Meanwhile, the Great League and Great League and Great League Remix are currently running in the Go Battle League Season 11. This season has also seen the lowering of the level requirement for Candy XL and introduced the first Ultra Beast, Nihilego.

Pokémon Go Gen 6 Pokémon list

Like the previous Pokémon generations, such as Gen 5, most evolutions will simply require you to collect a specific amount of Candy.

We can, however, expect to see a Gen 6 version of the Unova and Sinnoh Stone as, like Gen 4 and 5, this generation has a number of Pokémon that will only evolve if they are traded while holding a specific item.

A number of Pokémon may also be affected by the trading mechanic, which will make them easier to evolve once they've been traded with another player.
